Povidone-Iodine Solution 10% is a broad-spectrum antiseptic and disinfectant formulation containing 10% w/v Povidone-Iodine, equivalent to approximately 1% available iodine. It is designed for topical application to help reduce microorganisms on the skin and prevent infection in minor cuts, wounds, abrasions, burns, and surgical sites. The formulation provides effective antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa. The povidone carrier system gradually releases free iodine, ensuring sustained antimicrobial action while minimizing irritation compared to elemental iodine preparations.

Mechanism of Action

Povidone-Iodine acts by slowly releasing free iodine, which rapidly penetrates microbial cells and oxidizes essential proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids. This results in the destruction of a broad range of pathogenic microorganisms.
